How to Allow the Intuitive Mind to Develop and Be Supported by the Rational Mind
Last week I shared with you the routine I used to transition from work to home.
I put the car in park and recited 3 statements that helped me be fully present and fully engaged with my family as soon as I walked through the door.
But there was actually more to it than that. If I only recited 3 statements, it would have been a fruitless mental effort.
This is the problem with a lot of attempts at transformation. They try to change the mind without rewiring the brain.
Andrew Huberman, one of my favorite voices on neuroscience, recently tweeted:
“A wealth of data indicate that deliberate neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to change in response to specific intended experiences): 1) requires focus during learning 2) actual rewiring occurs in sleep 3) is accelerated by increasing adrenaline immediately POST learning.”
My routine wasn’t just reciting 3 statements to hype myself into a behavior change. I used a specific practice to focus on what I wanted to learn and harness adrenaline to embed it in my mind.
I used my internal imagination to reveal where my mindset was weak or flawed and positioned myself for a powerful learning experience. An experience so enthralling that it elevated my heart rate and induced an adrenalized state. It allowed me to be excited and calm at the same time, all while receiving life-changing insights.
At SightShift we call this practice “Identity Space” and teach it as a key practice in our Figure That Shift Out program. It’s a practice that has been used throughout human history to allow the intuitive mind to develop and be supported by the rational mind.
Most humans are slaves to the insecurities of their intuitive mind.
Most leaders are blocked by their rational mind.
If you don’t have a practice that helps you tap into the brilliance of your intuitive mind, then you are missing out on more potential than you even realize.
