The 4 Work-Styles of the Position Success Indicator*

Innovator

The Innovator is the starter, the initiator. They are at their best when proactively working on new ideas that will create impact for their team or organization. You could describe this person as one who creates problems (i.e. opportunities) that others can help solve or implement.

Focus:
External

The Innovator is comfortable with an externally focused view. They are at their best when contemplating impacts to the customer, or the market, or the horizon of the future. This person will struggle with implementation or completion but will have no trouble generating new ideas and embracing change.

Synthesizer

The Synthesizer excels at taking ideas and integrating them into the whole. They look for ways to improve upon an idea or to multiply it's impact. They are at their best when they can consider how something can grow or expand to create additional value for the organization or the customer.

Focus:
External

The Synthesizer is most comfortable with an external focus to their work. They are at their best when working on things with impact to the customer, or the market, or the horizon of the future. This person will struggle with implementation or completion but will have no trouble taking new ideas and continuing to make them bigger and better.

Stabilizer

The Stabilizer is focused on getting things done. They thrive in roles where execution is the goal and there are clear steps to get there. Show them what to do and how to do it and this is the person who will enjoy making it happen. They work best with clearly defined roles and responsibilities.

Focus:
Internal

The Stabilizer is most focused on the internal workings, preferring the internal processes and steps rather than contemplating external impacts. They will engage change through the lens of impact to their protocols or procedures and want to find their way back to an ordered approach to getting things done.

Improver

The Improver finds their greatest contribution when focusing on the best way to get things done. As the name implies, they want to improve things by creating systems and processes so that as things are getting done there are standards of quality that govern the process.

Focus:
Internal

The Improver sees their work through an internally focused lens. When creating activity or navigating change they make sure that the impacts to the team are not overlooked. They help to balance the impacts to internal constituents from the external focused initiatives.

Generalist

This means that you are able to flex into the other quadrants on occasion or as need arises for a limited amount of time. With greater ease, you can understand the contributions of the other types and view work from their perspectives.

Specialist

This means that you are most comfortable in your own quadrant and attempting to understand the other three or tap into their understanding requires effort. Without awareness, the way the other types approach work seems foreign to you.
